Why the Chime Visa® Debit Card Stands Out

The Chime Visa® Debit Card comes with the Chime Checking Account and can be used anywhere Visa debit cards are accepted. Because it is a debit card rather than a traditional credit card, purchases generally use money available in the checking account instead of a revolving credit line. Opening and using the checking account does not require a minimum balance, and Chime does not charge monthly service or overdraft fees.

Cash access is available through more than 47,000 fee-free ATMs in Chime's network, including participating Allpoint®, Visa® Plus Alliance and eligible FCTI® locations. However, Chime currently charges $2.50 per transaction for out-of-network ATM withdrawals. An ATM operator may also impose a separate third-party fee. Users can locate participating ATMs through Chime's Cash Map.

Qualifying direct deposit can provide earlier access to incoming funds. Chime makes qualifying deposits available when it receives the payment file from the payer, which may be up to two days before the scheduled payment date. Early availability is not guaranteed for every deposit because timing depends on when the payer submits the payment information.

Eligible members can also use SpotMe®, Chime's optional fee-free overdraft service. SpotMe can currently provide an eligible overdraft limit of up to $200 for debit card purchases and cash withdrawals. Eligibility requirements apply, including qualifying direct deposits, and each member's available SpotMe limit can vary.

The Chime mobile app provides tools for checking balances and transactions, managing the card, receiving transaction alerts, transferring money and locating nearby ATMs. Cardholders are also protected by Visa Zero Liability for unauthorized transactions, subject to applicable conditions and timely notification.

Does the Chime Visa® Debit Card require a credit check?

Chime states that applying for its checking account is free and has no impact on your credit score. The Chime Visa® Debit Card is connected to the Chime Checking Account and is not a traditional revolving credit card.

Can I use the Chime Visa® Debit Card internationally?

Yes. The Chime card can be used in most countries where Visa is accepted, although Chime restricts transactions in certain countries. Chime does not charge foreign transaction fees. ATM and third-party fees may still apply when withdrawing cash, and cardholders should check current international-use restrictions before traveling.

Is there a monthly fee for the Chime Visa® Debit Card?

Chime does not charge a monthly service fee or minimum balance fee for the Chime Checking Account. There are also no overdraft fees. However, certain transactions can carry charges, including a $2.50 Chime fee for out-of-network ATM withdrawals, and third-party fees may also apply.

How long does it take to receive the card?

After signing up for a Chime Checking Account, Chime mails the physical Visa® Debit Card to the member. Delivery times can vary. Chime also provides access to a virtual debit card that can be used for eligible purchases while waiting for the physical card.

Can I withdraw cash with the Chime Visa® Debit Card?

Yes. Chime currently provides access to more than 47,000 fee-free ATMs. Fee-free locations include participating Allpoint®, Visa® Plus Alliance and eligible FCTI® ATMs. Out-of-network ATM withdrawals currently carry a $2.50 Chime fee, and ATM operators may charge additional third-party fees.

How to Request the Chime Visa® Debit Card

The Chime Visa® Debit Card is provided with the Chime Checking Account, so users do not apply for it as a traditional credit card. The process begins by opening a Chime Checking Account online or through Chime's mobile app. Chime may request personal information to verify the applicant's identity and eligibility for the account.

There is no minimum opening deposit, monthly service fee or minimum balance requirement. Chime states that applying for an account is free and does not affect the applicant's credit score. Once the account is opened, Chime mails a physical Visa® Debit Card. Members can also access their debit card information through the Chime app and may use the available virtual debit card for eligible purchases.

Direct deposit is not required simply to maintain the Chime Checking Account, but qualifying direct deposits unlock additional features and membership benefits. Eligible deposits may become available up to two days before the scheduled payment date. Members who meet the applicable requirements may also qualify for Chime Plus, Chime Prime, SpotMe® and other Chime features, each of which has its own eligibility conditions.

The Chime app can be used to manage balances and transactions, transfer funds, locate fee-free ATMs, receive alerts and manage card security. Users should review Chime's current fee schedule and eligibility requirements because certain services and transactions can carry fees even though the checking account itself has no monthly service, minimum balance or overdraft fees.
